In a nod to Hawai'i's importance as a strategic military locale, Reyn's is introducing two new aloha shirt prints inspired by military motifs.

"Silent Service" features the USS Bowfin, the 63-year-old submarine docked at Pearl Harbor, while "Vintage Propellers" pays tribute to the aircraft of World War II with reproductions of photos by aviation photographer Michael O'Leary. The design is a collage of warplane photos, including B-25s and P-40s.

The shirts cost $69 and are available at Reyn's stores, online at www.reyns.com, the Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange and the USS Bowfin gift shop.

URBAN NOMAD BLOWOUT

Underground collector and designer Frieda Hulse will shut down her Urban Nomad location at 1023 Smith Street in Chinatown in September. She needs to sell her inventory, so she's discounting nearly everything 50 percent.

The funky little boutique specializes in vintage clothing and accessories, which Hulse sometimes tweaks to add her alternative twist.

The sale will kick off from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight during First Friday, and continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and during regular store hours, Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m., as long as inventory lasts.

FENDI AT KAHALA

Italian luxury design firm Fendi opened its newest Hawai'i boutique Monday in the Kahala Hotel and Resort.

Merchandise includes the handbags and furs Fendi is best known for, as well as the made-to-order Selleria line. Fashion-forward accessories such as the Fendi Spy bag and the B-Fendi line will share the shelves with resort-oriented terry cloth visors and sunglasses.

The boutique, on the first floor near the spa, occupies 350 square feet. Fendi brought in its team of architects from Rome to create the simple white-and-glass space, designed to highlight the products in a light and airy atmosphere.

Boutique hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Parking will be validated with any purchase.
