Two 11-under girls soccer teams win titles

Two 11-under girls soccer teams from Hawai'i captured championships at the USA Cup Weekend tournament in Blaine, Minn., from July 14 to 16.

Hawai'i Rush Nike defeated Bangu Tsunami, 4-2, in the Girls 11 "A" Playoff, A Flight, and Real Hawai'i Futbol Club defeated Sanford Center Gateway, 5-3 in the Girls 11 "A" Playoff, B Flight.

The Hawai'i Rush Nike beat Rushmore SC Blue, 4-0, in the first round and Whitefish Bay Blue, 4-1, in the second round.

Real Hawai'i FC beat Hawai'i Rush Swoosh, 1-0, in the first round and Dynamo Black Dynamites, 1-0, in the second round.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

Ashley Ogden, Jessica Higa and Randy Brun earned National High School Rodeo Association scholarships at the National High School Finals Rodeo that ended on Sunday in Springfield, Ill.

The competition featured 1,563 competitors from 40 states, five Canadian provinces as well as competitors from Australia.

CLUB WINS MEDALS

The Hawai'i Synchro Club took a silver medal in the free team combination event at the Oceania Games in Brisbane, Australia, that concluded July 17.

The team, composed of swimmers selected by the club, also took gold and silver in the junior solo event, gold in the junior duet, gold and silver in the age 14-15 solo event, gold in the 14-15 duet, and a bronze medal and fifth-place finish in the senior solo event.

The team was made up of: Brianna D'Amico (age 17), Savannah Forrester (16), Claire Friesen (16), Samantha Larose (16), Lauren Nicholson (14), Paige Ramsey (15), Mary Ramsey (19) and Susie Rodenkirchen (31).

The coaches were Lianne Cameron-Vrielink and Lisa Velez.
