Rider in critical condition after motorcycle crash

Advertiser Staff

A 44-year-old man was in critical condition today after his motorcycle hit a van last night in Waimanalo.

Police said the motorcycle was being driven at an apparent high rate of speed when it approached the intersection of Oluolu and Hinalea streets in Waimanalo about 6:30 last night.

The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, apparently laid the bike down on the roadway just before sliding into the van, police said.

The driver, a Waimanalo resident, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. The 47-year-old driver of the van was not injured, police said.

The speed of the motorcycle appeared to be a factor in the accident, police said. Alcohol did not appear to be involved, they said.
