Safety quits UH football team

By Stephen Tsai

Safety Geoff Hayth has quit the University of Hawaii football team after one day, UH coach June Jones confirmed Saturday.

Jones said Hayth was "homesick" and informed Jones of his decision after yesterday's first practice of training camp.

Hayth, a freshman from Texas, originally committed to attend the Air Force Academy. But he decided not to go there and instead accepted an offer to join the Warriors in January 2007.

But because of openings on the training camp roster, Hayth agreed to join the team for training camp.

Jones said he does not expect Hayth to rejoin the team in the future.
