HAWAI'I BRIEFS
Man, 44, hurt in motorcycle crash

Advertiser Staff

A 44-year-old man was in critical condition yesterday after his motorcycle hit a van in Waimanalo.

The motorcycle was apparently speeding when it approached the intersection of 'Olu'olu and Hinale'a streets about 6:30 Friday night, police traffic investigators said.

The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, evidently laid the bike down on the roadway just before sliding into the van.

The motorcyclist, a Waimanalo resident, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. The 47-year-old driver of the van was not injured, police said.

The motorcycle's speed appeared to be a factor in the crash; alcohol did not, police said.
