Police Beat: Man jailed for beating wife

Advertiser Staff

A heated argument landed a 28-year-old man in jail yesterday after allegedly assaulting his wife, police said.

The Honolulu couple were arguing about 2 a.m. yesterday when the husband started punching his wife in the face, police allege. The 27-year-old woman suffered substantial facial injuries, police said.

The suspect turned himself in at the main station, where he was arrested for investigation of 2nd-degree assault.

Police to ask for charges for alleged sexual assault

Police today said they will ask the Honolulu prosecutor to consider charges against a 46-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a younger woman.

The 23-year-old victim was in the man's vehicle between 10:30 p.m. and 11:09 p.m. yesterday in Honolulu when the alleged assault occured. The suspect was later arrested for investigation of 1st degree sexual assault, police said.

Driver involved in fatal accident charged with negligent homicide

The driver of a convertible Ford Mustang involved in a fatal traffic accident last week was arrested for investigation of negligent homicide charges but released the same day, pending further investigation, police said today.

The 32-year-old man, who has a Honolulu address and job but a Mainland driver's license, was arrested at 1:15 p.m. Thursday — the same day of the accident that killed a male passenger in the Mustang, police said.

The two men were headed west on Date Street about 4:15 a.m. Thursday when their car hit a parked pickup truck near Mahiahi Street, then flipped, spun and skidded upside down on the street, police said.

The driver was initially taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with head, body and leg injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown nearly clear of the car, which landed on his legs, pinning him to the street.

His 23-year-old passenger, however, was wearing a seatbelt and suffered massive head injuries when the car landed on him. He died before Honolulu firefighters could remove him, police said.

The Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner has not been able to positively identify the victim of crash. An autopsy completed Thursday determined the cause of death was blunt force to the head and neck.
