Coffee suspends U.S. Senate campaign

Advertiser Staff

Jerry Coffee, former Vietnam prisoner of war and a motivational speaker, has suspended his campaign in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate because of health reasons.

His son, Jerry Coffee Jr., told reporters at Hawai'i Republican Party headquarters this evening that his father underwent heart surgery this morning in Texas.

Coffee's name will remain on the ballot, but his son said it is unlikely he would campaign even if he makes a speedy recovery.
