The Aug. 7,1890, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported on a dinner given the night before by King Kalakaua in honor of Rear Adm. George Brown. The paper reported that the interior of 'Iolani Palace was "brilliantly illuminated with the electric light."

1883: The Royal Hawaiian Band leaves on the Mariposa to visit San Francisco.

1910: The eight mortar guns of Battery Harlow, Fort Ruger at Diamond Head, have been connected with the fire control station on the foreface of Diamond Head in back of the lighthouse, and the guns are practically ready for firing, the Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports.

1910: The cornerstone of the new Kaumakapili Church is laid.
