Advertiser Staff

Police yesterday were investigating a possible sexual assault case involving a 21-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl.

The man met the girl at a youth club and the two began dating, police said. The girl's parents disapproved of the relationship due to the age difference and obtained a temporary restraining order against the man , ordering him to stay away from the girl.

Police were told that the girl ran away from home about 2 a.m. yesterday and spent the rest of the night with the man at Auwaiolimu Neighborhood Park in the Punchbowl area, where the sexual assault allegedly took place.

Man arrested for stealing phone

A 24-year-old man was arrested in Kailua last night after a 53-year-old woman told police the man took a cellular telephone from her.

The woman said she was walking along a sidewalk in the 500-block of Kailua Road about 10:15 p.m. and was passing through a group of men standing on the sidewalk when one of them hit her in the shoulder.

The man who hit her then yanked her cell phone away and ran, the woman told police.

Police arrived in the area, located a suspect and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree theft and third-degree assault.
