Broncos get offers they can refuse for Lelie
NFL teams keep making Ted Sundquist offers for former University of Hawai'i standout Ashley Lelie he can refuse, according to a story by Bill Wilson that appeared in the Web edition of The Daily Times-Call in Longmont, Colo.Denver's general manager said Tuesday the interest in holdout receiver Ashley Lelie is beginning to increase as teams around the league experience injuries or realize they have overestimated their current talent.
But just because his phone rings more regularly these days does not mean the trade offers are getting any better.
"The fact that we don't have one done yet kind of answers that question," Sundquist said. "When it comes, it comes. When it feels right, we'll know."
Lelie, whose training-camp fines have reached $168,000, is holding out in order to force a trade to a team that will make him its No. 1 receiver. In exchange for Lelie, the Broncos are reportedly asking for a third- or fourth-round draft pick, or a player of equal value.
Sundquist, however, said he still considers Lelie's return a "viable option."
