A site was secured in Manoa for the new College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, the Aug. 9, 1907, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported.

1910: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports that Hawaiian Dredging Co. has completed its contract to fill in the fishponds at Waikiki opposite Fort DeRussy where a battalion of engineers is encamped and where construction for the new coast defense guns is progressing.

1945: The United States drops an atomic bomb over Nagasaki. President Truman pledges to continue using the atomic bomb until Japan's power to make war is ended.

1946: Members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team return to Hawai'i to a tumultuous welcome. In a speech at the 'Iolani Palace grounds, Gov. Ingram Stainback told the men they not only fought and overcame the Nazis in the war, but they "fought victoriously at home in the battle against prejudice, distrust and intolerance. To you we truly owe a debt of great gratitude."

1949: Gov. Ingram Stainback issues an order for the seizure of two of the largest stevedoring facilities at Honolulu Harbor, and the territory begins recruiting 1,500 stevedores. The 1949 dock strike had begun on May 1 and lasted until October.
