1924: The Advertiser reports that Honolulu is suffering from an epidemic of auto thefts downtown.
1929: The territorial treasury department reports the population of Honolulu is 114,630. The population of the territory was 357,647.
1932: Hawai'i's Buster Crabbe sets an Olympic record in winning the 400-meter swimming event in the Los Angeles Olympics.
1941: The first Pan Am Clipper service flight between Hawai'i and the Mainland only, and not connected with trans-Pacific service to Asia and the South Pacific, leaves San Francisco. The flight arrived on O'ahu the next morning. Pan Am called it shuttle service.
1944: The Advertiser reports that President Roosevelt had made a secret three-day trip to Honolulu at the end of July. He met with his top Pacific commanders, Adm. Chester Nimitz and Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
1945: Japan announces it is ready to accept the terms of the Allied Potsdam surrender ultimatum.
