Police Beat: Man faces murder charge in stabbing

A 20-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the stabbing death of a 24-year-old man in July 2005 in downtown Honolulu.

Police arrested Sheldon Amuo yesterday for allegedly stabbing Samio Saingo during a fight outside Club Pauahi at about 1:30 a.m. July 17, 2005.

A club bouncer told police believe four men who got into an argument with the victim at the corner of Pauahi and Bethel streets.

The bouncer said he was trying to hold Saingo back from a fight when three men rushed past and began punching and kicking Saingo. The bouncer told police a fourth man stabbed Saingo. Saingo was pronounced dead at 8:03 a.m on the day of the attack.

Police said Amuo apparently fled to the Mainland after the incident. He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of second-degree murder after being spotted driving a Dodge Neon in Kalihi. Police interviewed other men allegedly involved in the fight last year shortly after the incident.

Man arrested after children report threat

Police arrested a 34-year-old man yesterday after he allegedly pointed a handgun at four children in Waipahu and threatened to kill them.

The children told police the man pointed the gun at them on July 4 around 11:45 p.m. and threatened to kill the girls, ages 11, 12, and 13, and threatened to harm the fourth child, a 13-year-old boy.

Police said the man was identified in a photo lineup. Police located the man yesterday afternoon and arrested him on suspicion of three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Teen's break from custody thwarted

A 17-year-old boy from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility attempted to escape from custody yesterday during a doctor's appointment.

Police said that at about 11:05 a.m. a law enforcement officer was escorting the boy to a medical appointment. The boy ran off when the officer opened the car door, police reported.

Police arrived at the scene, found the boy and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree escape and fourth-degree theft.

Man arrested in punching incident

A 26-year-old man in Mo'ili'ili was arrested early this morning after he allegedly punched another man in the head.

A 24-year-old man told police that at 12:10 a.m. on Coyne Street that was attacked by the older man and suffered lacerations on the side of his head. The man then pointed out the man who punched him, police said. Both men appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating beverage, police said.

Police arrested the alleged assailant on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Man arrested in pornography case

Police arrested a 48-year-old man Wednesday on suspicion of creating pornographic content involving a 12-year-old girl.

The man and the girl live at the same residence in the Liliha area, police said. Police reported that they have been investigating the case since August 2005.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree promoting child abuse.
