808 Basketball Club 13-under team wins title

 •  Bowlers, batsmen find their game in Hawai'i

The 13-under team from the 808 Basketball Club captured the title at the Vision Sports National Youth Basketball Championships last month in Las Vegas.

The team, composed of players from public and private schools, beat Oxnard, Calif., 58-47 for the title. Jordan Kealoha led the Hawai'i squad with 19 points.

The club's 12-under team finished 2-1 in pool play at the Arc Hoops Tournament, also in Las Vegas, but was beaten in the semifinals.

The two teams were composed of Hawai'i girls basketball players from public and private schools

LADY RAIDERS WIN TITLE

The Lady Hawai'i Raiders, a team made up of varsity level players from Iolani School, beat a team of Northern California players, 39-37 in overtime, at the NCAA-certified Midsummer Nights' Madness Pacific Coast basketball tournament in Oakland, Calif.

The tournament, which ran from July 21 to 24, featured a field of 21 teams from Arizona, California , Hawai'i, Oregon and Washington. The Raiders went 6-0 in the tournament.

Team members: Kylie Ahlo, Chanel Hirata, Dayna Jandoc, Kaz Masutani, Alana Matayoshi, Alison Nojima, Jamie Smith, Raechele Takara, Sarah Turgeon, and Chelsea Unemori. Coaches: Glenn Takara and assistant Ivan Suzuki.
