A Schofield Barracks soldier killed during a training accident on Thursday was identified today as Sgt. Allen Stevens, 35, of Chesapeake, Va.

He died during live-fire exercise training at Schofield Barracks range, the Army said. He was pronounced dead at Wahiawa General Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Stevens, who had a wife and two children, was a signal support systems specialist assigned to the 25th Infantry Division's 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery Regiment, the Army said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sgt. Stevens," said Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, 25th Infantry Division commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of loss."
