ABERDEEN, Md. — Hilo broke open a tie game with a six-run third inning en route to a 10-3 victory over Newtown, Conn., Monday, in the Cal Ripken Worlds Series for 12-year-olds.

The game was tied 3-all in the third when Hilo sent 10 batters to the plate, combining three hits and five Newtown errors for all its runs.

"You put the ball into play and something is going to happen," Wong said about his team's big inning.

Ekolu Martins was the winning pitcher and name the Player of the Game for Hilo, which is 2-0 and plays St. Mary's County, Md., Tuesday. The United States teams are divided into two pools. The top two in each pool advance into single-elimination playoffs, which start Friday.
