Business briefs: Hawai'i home sales fall in 2nd quarter

Sales of existing single-family homes in Hawai'i fell 18 percent in the second quarter compared with a year ago, the National Association of Realtors reported today.

It was the eighth largest drop in quarterly home sales among the 50 states, the NAR said.

The trade group also reported the second-quarter median price for a single-family home in the Honolulu metro area was $640,000, the fourth highest in the nation, trailing three metro areas in California.

The three metro areas ahead of California were Anaheim-Santa Ana ($726,200), San Jose-Sunnyvale ($748,200), and San Francisco-Oakland ($751,900).

The NAR also reported the median condo price in Honolulu was $305,000, was the seventh highest in the country.

State encourages contractors to renew licenses online

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs' Professional and Vocational Licensing Division and the Contractors Licensing Board are encouraging the state's more than 11,000 licensed contractors to renew their licenses online by visiting www.ehawaii.gov/pvlrenew.

It is the first time the state is offering contractor's the opportunity to renew their licenses online. To date, the state has made more than 30 different applications available online.
