'Movin' Out' gone before it comes

By Wayne Harada

"Movin' Out" won't be movin' in to the Blaisdell Concert Hall in September. The 13-performance run, which had been set for Sept. 8 through 17, has been canceled due to routing issues relating to the touring company, which now is in Japan.

Sales for the show — Twyla Tharp choreography set to Billy Joel songs — apparently were good, with audiences eager to see the Tony Award-winning musical.

However, Steve Boulay, executive vice president of Salt Lake City-based Broadway Across America, said the show will not be able to stop in Hawai'i on its way back to the United States, as originally planned.

No other specifics were announced.

Refunds will be available beginning Aug. 23, at the points of purchase, including the Neal Blaisdell Center box office, Ticketmaster locations, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

"Having so successfully presented 'Cats' last in Honolulu Broadway Across America is sorry to disappoint Hawai'i audiences with the cancellation of 'Movin' Out,' " said Boulay in a statement. "But we are looking at other major touring shows and hope to have them come to the Islands in the near future."
