Wilson shoots 74 in PGA Championship

Advertiser Staff

Former Kaneohe resident Dean Wilson shot a 2-over-par 74 Thursday in the opening round of the PGA Championship, the last of the four major PGA tournaments this year.

Wilson had one birdie and three bogeys over the 7,561-yard Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.

Wilson, 36, a Castle High School alum coming off his first PGA Tour victory last week at The International, birdied the par-5 14th. He bogeyed the par-5 fifth and 10th holes and the par-4 16th hole.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, golf's No. 1 and No. 2 players, each shot 3-under 69s.

U.S. Open winner Geoff Ogilvy, who was paired with Woods and Mickelson, also shot 69.

The three represent this year's major tournament winners with Mickelson, the Masters champion; Ogilvy, the U.S. Open winner, and Woods, the British Open champion.

Lucas Glover and Chris Riley both shot 6-under 66s and share the lead among players who have finished the first round.
