'Movin' Out' show won't stop on O'ahu

"Movin' Out" won't be movin' in to the Blaisdell Concert Hall in September. The 13-performance run, which had been set for Sept. 8 through 17, has been canceled because of logistical complications for the touring company, which is now in Japan.

Sales for the musical, which featured Twyla Tharp's choreography set to Billy Joel songs, and won a Tony Award when mounted on Broadway, were adequate, according to organizers. However, Steve Boulay, executive vice president of Salt Lake City-based Broadway Across America, said the show will not be able to stop in Hawai'i on its way back to the United States.

No other specifics were announced.

Refunds will be available beginning Wednesday at the points of purchase, including the Neal Blaisdell Center box office and Ticketmaster locations, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

"Having so successfully presented 'Cats' last in Honolulu, Broadway Across America is sorry to disappoint Hawai'i audiences with the cancellation of 'Movin' Out,' " Boulay said in a statement. "But we are looking at other major touring shows and hope to have them come to the Islands in the near future."
