Waiehu man killed in moped crash identified

KAHULUI, Maui — A 48-year-old Waiehu man died yesterday after his moped crashed on Kahului Beach Road.Police said Dexter Nakoa was headed southeast on a blue 2005 Honda moped at about 1:55 p.m. when he apparently lost control and hit the pavement, suffering fatal injuries. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
There have been 12 traffic deaths on Maui so far this year, compared with seven a year ago.
