1960: The city unveils a massive 20-year master plan that included 75 new school plants, two more Ko'olau tunnels, a faster route around Pearl Harbor, three major civic centers outside Honolulu, two liberal arts junior colleges and expanded port facilities.
1971: Leaders of the Hawaii State Teachers Association, United Public Workers Union and the Hawaii Government Employees Association criticize President Nixon's wage freeze. They said it forced working people to bear the full brunt of saving the economy.
2001: The 'Aiea Junior League baseball team wins the Junior League championship at the World Series at Heritage Park in Taylor, Mich.
2004: Former U.S. Sen. Hiram Fong lawyer, entrepreneur, tycoon and statesman under five American presidents dies at the age of 97.
