Teenagers killed in wreck identified

Two O'ahu teenagers were killed early this morning when their speeding car flew off the road in Hau'ula and hit a utility pole, a fire hydrant and another utility pole before ending up in a ditch, police said. Three other teenagers were injured in the one-car crash.

Killed were Alithia Ah Nee, 16, of La'ie, and 15-year-old Pepe Naupoto of Kahuku, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said Naupoto was driving a gray, four-door 1990 Acura at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a curve on Kamehameha Highway in Hau'ula about 4:20 a.m.

No one in the car was wearing seat belts, police said. It was not known if alcohol was a factor.

Ah Nee was thrown from the car and Naupoto, who was driving, was partially ejected, police said.

A boy, 15, and girl, 14, were taken to The Queen's Medical Center is stable and serious condition, respectively, police said.

Another boy, 15, was driven in a private vehicle to Kahuku Hospital and reported in good condition, police said.
