Hilo advances to Cal Ripken title game

Advertiser Staff

Ridge Hoopii-Haslam hit a three-run homer in a six-run third inning as Hilo defeated Bryant Ark., 8-1, on Saturday to advance to the championship game of the Cal Ripken (12-under) World Series in Aberdeen, Md.

Hilo, which won the U.S. championship, faces Mexico on Sunday. Mexico defeated the Dominican Repubilic, 2-1, on Saturday for the International championship. A team from Mexico has been in the Cal Ripken final each of the past four years. Last year, Oahu, beat Mexico, 1-0 for the championship.

Sunday's game will be televised live at 11 a.m. on OLN (Outdoor Life Network).

Hoopii-Haslam pitched five innings of relief, allowing one hit, striking out ten and walking three to earn the victory.
