One-man play 'Damien' Aug. 25

Casey Groves will perform in the one-man play "Damien," 7 p.m., Aug. 25, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace.

The play, written by Aldyth Morris and previously performed off-Broadway, focuses on the life of the Belgian priest who came to the Islands to help victims of Hansen's disease in the late 1800s.

The free production is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Honolulu.

DIVINE MERCY CONFERENCE SET

The second annual Divine Mercy Conference will be held Sept. 8-10 at the Hawai'i Convention Center, a follow-up to Roman Catholic Bishop Larry Silva's dedication of the local diocese to the Divine Mercy.

The three-day conference starts at 5 p.m., Sept. 8, and events continue throughout the weekend until 1 p.m., Sept. 10, a Sunday. There will be international, national as well as local speakers. Cost for the conference is $45 ($25 for youths and $20 for children ages 12 and younger).

SECOND SYMPOSIUM FOR ALL BELIEVERS

The All Believers Network will hold its second annual symposium, "Moving From Exclusion to Inclusion in My Faith: Exploring Commonalities and Complementarities Across Religions," 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 4, at the Jisso Center, 47-451 Hui Aeko Place, Kane'ohe.

The main speaker is Kent Keith, author of "The Paradoxical Commandments."

Fee for the daylong Labor Day symposium is $20 in advance ($25 at the door); it includes continental breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., lunch and refreshments. Scholarships are available for teachers and instructors.
