Team of counselors formed to cope with teens' death

Advertiser Staff

Kahuku Intermediate and High School today organized a team of counselors to help students grieving the deaths of four teenagers who were killed in separate car crashes Saturday at the same spot in Hau'ula.

Alithia Ah Nee, 16 and Pepe Naupoto, 15, were killed in a car crash early Saturday morning, followed by the deaths of Summer-Lynn Mau, 19, and Benson Orem Kauvaka, 16, who had been paying their respects at the crash site when they were struck by a speeding car.

In a statement today, Lisa DeLong, the principal at Kahuku Intermediate and High School, said:

"Thank you for your concern for our students, faculty, staff and community during this difficult time. We are stunned by the tragic events that took place over the weekend and led to the loss of four young lives. We remain concerned about the individuals who were injured in the two crashes and pray that they make full recoveries. We extend our deepest sympathies and warmest embraces to the families and friends of those involved. We have organized a team of counselors and other personnel to support students on campus who are grieving the loss of friends and family members. We are asking for privacy while students console and comfort each other. No public activities are planned and therefore, no media sources will be allowed on campus."
