Jury sides with city in boulder death lawsuit

Advertiser Staff

A Circuit Court jury decided today the city was not negligent in the August 2002 crash of a boulder into a Nu'uanu home that killed 26-year-old Dara Onishi.

The six men and six women on the panel returned a unanimous verdict.

In the $1.8 million wrongful death suit, attorneys for the Onishi family argued the city should be held responsible for a drainage system on Pacific Heights Road that dumped water down the hillside and helped dislodge the boulder that rolled into the Onishi home, on Henry Street.
