Police Beat: Dad arrested after taking children

A 54-year-old Kaimuki man was arrested last night after he allegedly forced his way into the home of an acquaintance of his wife and took his children away.

Police said the man's wife had left their children in the care of the 57-year-old woman who was roughed up while the man was taking his children out of her home about 7:15 p.m.

The man ran out of the house with his children when police were called.

He was found a short time later and served with a restraining order that had been pending, police said. He was also arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary and third-degree assault.

Man in stolen car arrested

A 43-year-old man with no home address was arrested yesterday after police found him behind the wheel of a car that had been reported stolen.

Police said that patrol officers who were responding to a parking complaint found the man sitting in the driver's seat of the car, with the motor still running.

The officers noticed the ignition had been "punched" and confirmed suspicions that the car had been reported stolen. They then arrested the driver on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

The man was later arrested on suspicion of drug charges, based on items found on him, police said.

Aliamanu man arrested for assaulting his family

Police arrested a 53-year-old Aliamanu man last night after his wife and two sons reported being threatened or assaulted by him.

Police said the wife reported that her husband was assaulting the two boys, ages 15 and 11, and that he threatened her with a knife when she tried to intervene.

Patrol officers went to the home and arrested the suspect on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family or household member.

Police said the two boys received minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Two women sought in armed robbery of candy store

Police are looking for two women who robbed a candy store in Pearl City at about 6:30 p.m. yesterday.

Police were told that the two women walked into the store and that one of them pulled out a handgun while ordering the lone employee to hand over an undisclosed amount of money.

The two women ran from the store and were still at large as of this morning, police said.

Confrontation with resident manager leads to arrest

Police arrested a 61-year-old Chinatown man yesterday afternoon after he got into a confrontation with the resident manager of the apartment building where he lives.

The manager told police he informed the other man that he was violating house rules by having a guest in his room.

The manager said the woman guest left the man's room and that a short time later, the same tenant came after him with a knife in his hand and threatened to harm him.

Police were called to the scene, located the tenant and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Speedster driving stolen car arrested

A 33-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested yesterday after police found him driving a stolen car.

A patrol officer was using a laser speed detection device at the corner of California Avenue and Rose Street when he order the man to pull over so he could issue a speeding ticket, police said.

The officer found the driver was not licensed to drive and discovered the car he was driving had been reported stolen.

The driver was arrested on the spot for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and driving without a license.
