Business briefs: Island Air to link two Maui airports

Island Air will fly a direct daily flight connecting two of Maui's airports next month.Beginning Sept. 5, the airline will make the 15-minute flight from West Maui's Kapalua Airport to Maui's main hub, Kahului Airport.
"This non-stop route will make travel easier for West Maui residents and visitors traveling to an onward destination from Kahului by allowing them to bypass the more crowded security lines at Kahului Airport and freeing them from worries about traffic congestion on the heavily traveled road to Kahului," said Island Air Chief Operating Officer Les Murashige.
Lana'i to be represented in Parade of Homes for first time
The island of Lana'i for the first time will have an entrant in the BIA Parade of Homes, Hawai'i's premiere trade show showcasing the latest trends, technology, and design in new home construction.
The home, located in The Palms at Manele luxury development, has been entered in this year's multi-family/townhouse category in a division for homes priced at $2,999,001 and higher.
The 2,345-square-foot luxury home has ocean-views and fronts the 18th fairway of the The Challenge at Manele golf course. The Parade of Homes open house runs the weekends of October 7 & 8, 14 & 15 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Special showings may be made by appointment by calling 1-800-505-2624.
Verizon Wireless to open store in Moanalua Shopping Center
Verizon Wireless will open its newest Hawaii store with a blessing Saturday in the Moanalua Shopping Center.
The blessing and a maile lei untying are scheduled for 11 a.m. followed by a host of promotions, including giveaways and a free T-shirts with any purchase. The store is seventh opened by Verizon Wireless in Hawai'i over the past four years.
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse to open first Big Island outlet
The Hawai'i franchisee for Ruth's Chris Steak House is scheduled to open a restaurant on the Big Island in October, it's first on the island and its fourth in the state.
The opening is set for Oct. 9 on the second floor at the Shops at Mauna Lani on the Kona Coast. The steakhouse has two restaurants on Maui and on on O'ahu. The franchisee, Desert Island Restaurants, is based in Scottsdale, Ariz.
