A day of Hawaiian music and food Saturday at Andrews Amphitheatre at the University of Hawai'i campus is scheduled to help raise money for Halau Ku Mana Public Charter School to relocate from its current home at Paradise Park.

The school, with 108 students in grades 6 through 12, must move out of its Manoa quarters as of Dec. 20.

The school has already moved three times in its six-year existence and is looking for a long-term campus location, said 'ohana and community development director Micky Huihui.

Five classrooms, a library, computer lab and office space are needed, said Huihui — or about 8,000 square feet.

The school focuses on three areas — academics, behavior and culture — and specializes in leading students through culturally based projects.

"We've been very successful despite continuing uncertainty regarding facilities," said school principal Keola Nakanishi in a statement. "We need to have a home, a place where we can further develop our long-term curriculum, which includes building and planting projects."

The school hopes to stay in Manoa because it primarily serves the population areas of its host communities of Papakolea and Maunalaha.
