Akaka to speak at Rotary luncheon

U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka will speak about national security issues on Tuesday at a luncheon program with the Rotary Club of Honolulu. The meeting is from noon to 1 p.m. at the Royal Hawaiian hotel's Monarch Room. The cost is $18.35.

K5 TO TELEVISE LIVE DEMOCRATS' FORUM

Monday's "political speed campaigning" forum for Democratic primary candidates in the 2nd Congressional District will be televised live on K5 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

KHNL News 8 will provide live coverage of the event from Kapolei High School. All 10 Democratic candidates are expected to attend. Their coverage will be proceeded by taped interviews with the two Republican candidates at 6:30 p.m. The forum is sponsored by the Democratic Party of Hawai'i.

NANAKULI, MA'ILI FORUM TUESDAY

The four candidates vying to represent Nanakuli and Ma'ili in the state House will appear at a forum Tuesday at the Nanakuli High & Intermediate cafeteria.

The District 44 candidates — incumbent Rep. Michael Kahikina, Karen Awana, Cynthia Rezentes and Tercia Ku — will answer questions on community concerns like homelessness, traffic congestion, drugs, education and landfills. The two-hour forum begins at 6:30 p.m.
