	The Aug. 26, 1891, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reprinted Queen Lili'uokalani's address during a tour to 'Ewa and Wai'anae.

1899: The Honolulu Stock Exchange organizes and invites tenders for membership.

1920: U.S. Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signs the suffrage proclamation giving women the right to vote.

1923: Kilauea erupts violently. Fissures are reported and new lava covers at least 100 acres.

1968: Sen. Daniel K. Inouye gives the keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention and pleads with America's young people not to destroy their country in their fervor to rebuild it. He also warns the nation of the folly of demanding either total victory or instant peace in Vietnam.

1974: Charles A. Lindbergh is buried in a century-old graveyard near Hana, Maui. He was 72. Lindbergh, knowing he was suffering from incurable cancer, had returned to Hana eight days earlier.

1991: Five people are killed and three are injured, and a home and workplace are burned in a nighttime trail of fire and blood that Honolulu police link to a love triangle. Orlando Ganal Sr., who was later convicted of murder, is so enraged that his estranged wife, Mabel, is seeing someone that he goes to her parents' Waipahu home, shoots them to death, then wounds his wife and son. He then firebombs the Kailua home of Michael and Wendy Touchette because of Michael's brother's relationship with Mabel. The fire kills Michael and the couple's two young children. Wendy Touchette is severely burned.

2003: O'ahu bus drivers go on strike. It is the first bus strike since 1971.
