Police Beat: Husband reports scissors assault

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 33-year-old woman in Waikiki late last night after she allegedly tried to stab her husband with a pair of scissors.

The husband, 43, told police he had been arguing with his wife about 10:10 p.m. when she picked up the scissors and threatened to harm him.

The husband said he began to grapple with the wife and was "poked" in the shoulder, resulting in a small puncture wound.

Police were called to the scene and arrested the wife on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree assault.

Man arrested in extortion, robbery incident

Police arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of multiple offenses the morning after a 37-year-old man told police the younger man broke into his Kalama Valley home and attempted to extort money from him.

The older man said he was asleep but awoke when the younger man punched him in the face and demanded that the two go out side. Once outside, the younger man demanded $200 as payment for "taxes," the older man told police.

He said he ignored the demands, at which point the intruder began to punch and kick him before leaving the area.

The man who filed the complaint told police he recognized the other man because he had worked for the younger man's father and was paid "under the table" in cash every week, after which the younger man collected a weekly payment in the form of a tax. He told police he once paid the younger man $500 as a tax.

Police found the suspect nearby on Kahului Street and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree extortion and second-degree robbery. The man who filed the complaint was treated at the scene by city Emergency Medical Services workers for minor injuries, police said.

The mother told police the assault took place when she allowed the man to accompany her son to use a rest room about 1:30 a.m.

Police listed the alleged offense as a third-degree sexual assault.
