LINDA KAWAMURA has been promoted to vice president of human resources at Hawai'i Pacific University, effective Friday. Kawamura joined the private university in 1995 as director of human resources and was promoted in 2001 to associate vice president. She also serves as HPU's equal employment opportunity/affirmative action officer and risk manager. The 25-year-plus veteran of human resources management has also served as human resources and customer service manager at C.S. Wo & Sons Ltd. and human resources assistant manager at Bank of Hawaii.
Also, ALISSA J. ARP has been named vice president for research and dean of the HPU College of Natural Sciences. She will oversee an active research program and further integration of HPU faculty, students and staff at affiliate The Oceanic Institute. Additionally, she will develop new graduate programs in marine sciences, and further extramural funding in support of Oceanic Institute faculty research. Arp is a 24-year veteran of marine sciences and has explored the ocean floor in eight deep-sea dives in research submersibles.
Commercial brokerage and property management firm Sofos Realty Corp. has announced personnel changes and additions to accommodate its new management and leasing contract with Koko Marina Center:
Overseeing day-to-day overall operations of the center will be new on-site property manager SUZIE SETZLER. The six-year veteran of the real estate industry will oversee improvements, contracting for common area services, budget, tenant coordination and relations, and physical management of the property. Setzler was previously residential property manager at The Rental Center.
Recently promoted vice president of the commercial property management division is 12-year Sofos veteran CARRIE NAIHE, who will oversee a portfolio of office and industrial properties of more than 250,000 square feet and 130 tenants. She will oversee the property management staff, budget preparation, tenant retention, lease negotiations, property inspections and reporting to owners.
MARISA del ROSARIO has been hired as new controller, overseeing accounting operations for all managed properties. The 12-year property management veteran was most recently accounting manager for the Mililani Town Association.
The Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawai'i, a nonprofit organization founded in 1982 to encourage advocacy of the local agricultural industry and develop effective industry leaders, has named KIM COFFEE-ISAAK its new full-time executive director. Coffee-Isaak is a longtime advocate in the local arts community, having developed numerous successful collaborative projects over the years, including The ARTS at Marks Garage, the Downtown Gallery Walk and First Fridays in Honolulu. For 10 years, she was executive director of Hawai'i Craftsmen. In addition to a multidisciplinary leadership program, the foundation also hosts the Statewide Agricultural Conference.
The foundation has also added a new board member, JOHN J. McHUGH JR., a recent graduate of the group's Agricultural Leadership Program. McHugh is co-owner of Crop Care Hawai'i and sole owner of John J. McHugh Jr., both agricultural consulting businesses. He also serves as co-chair of the Hawai'i Farm Bureau Federation's Environmental Stewardship Committee; secretary-treasurer of West O'ahu Soil and Water Conservation District; and director of the O'ahu Resource Conservation Development Council.
Also naming a new executive director — its first full-time one since inception in 1986 — is the local branch of the International Dyslexia Association. New executive director C. KENT COARSEY previously was president and founding board member of Family Promise of Hawai'i, which helps provide shelters for the homeless.
MARY KU, vice president of Brandvold & Associates, has been named partner in the local claims-adjusting and third-party administration service provider. The 12-year company veteran directs the firm's workers' compensation department and manages numerous local and Mainland insurance company accounts. Ku also coordinates the "Work Comp to Da Max" seminars, focusing on timely issues and challenges of the local workers' compensation system.
MAHEALANI PAI has been named to a newly created position of cultural resources specialist at the Big Island's Keauhou Resort. In the new position, Pai, a veteran in cultural research, restoration, cultural protocol and the ancient Hawaiian arts of hula and ho'opa, will guide cultural opportunities at the 2,400-acre master-planned resort community near Kailua, Kona, Hawai'i; help in identifying sacred sites for restoration; and provide a place for the celebration of Hawaiian cultural traditions. He holds a degree in Hawaiian studies.
