Visitor arrivals fall in July for first time in four months

Visitor arrivals fell in July for the first time in four months as the number of international tourists continued to decline.Hawai'i hosted 725,683 visitors last month, down 1.9 percent from July last year, according to state data released today.
Mainland arrivals grew slightly by 0.9 percent, but international arrivals declined 10.6 percent.
Total visitor spending rose a scant 0.3 percent to $1.2 billion in July.
Of the total number of visitors last month, 36,085 either flew here to board Hawai'i-based cruise ships or arrived on foreign ships, up 58.8 percent from July last year.
So far this year visitor arrivals are up 0.3 percent just barely ahead of last year's record pace. Visitor spending through July, however, is up 4.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
