Airport restrictions continue over holiday weekend

With the upcoming Labor Day weekend, state Department of Transportation officials advise that directives pertaining to early arrival times for passengers on departing flights and bans on liquids at Honolulu International Airport are still in place.

For most domestic and international flights, departing passengers should continue arriving at the airport three hours prior to departure time. Operations for United Airlines flights No. 72 and No. 934 to San Francisco and Los Angeles, respectively, begin at 5 a.m. Departing passengers should arrive at the airport no earlier than 5 a.m.

Departing passengers on inter-island flights should arrive 11/2 hours to 2 hours prior to the flights.

Passengers are also advised to come early to secure airport parking over the holiday weekend, or arrange to have someone drop them off at the airport. If the inter-island parking lot fills up, inter-island passengers are advised to look for parking at the overseas parking structure.

All liquids, gels and aerosols are still prohibited from passing through security screening checkpoints and onto commercial aircraft through carry-on luggage.

Passengers are advised to place items such as beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, perfume and cologne with their check-in baggage.

Passengers may carry on solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items, such s lipstick in tubes, solid deodorant and lip balm. Baby formula and breast milk will be allowed on the place if a baby or small child is traveling. Passengers will be prohibited from bringing juice aboard.

Liquid prescription medicine will be allowed aboard s long as the name on the medicine label matches the passenger's ticket. Up to 8 ounces of low blood sugar treatment (insulin) and up to 4 ounces of essential non-prescription liquid medications will also be allowed.

Beverages may be purchased at airport concession stands in the sterile areas. but must be consumed or disposed of before boarding the aircraft.
