RESTAURANT NEWS

RUTH'S CHRIS OPENS OCT. 9 ON BIG ISLAND

  • Randy Schoch's Desert Island Restaurants will open a fourth Hawai'i Ruth's Chris Steak House on the Big Island on Oct. 9. (Other outlets are on O'ahu and Maui.) The award-winning steak and seafood restaurant will incorporate Hawaiian-style design features. Chef Darcy Ambrosio, with 15 years of Big Island restaurant experience, will preside in the kitchen.

  • Also opened recently in the same shopping center, a second Tommy Bahama Tropical Cafe restaurant, as well as a retail store. (The other is on Maui.) Tommy Bahama offers a menu in the same romanticized tropical mode that characterizes its clothing line — i.e., pina colada cake.

  • And on Maui earlier this summer, E&O Trading Co. opened a spacious outlet at Lahaina Cannery Mall offering its eclectic Southeast Asian grill cuisine.
