The road proved to be rocky for two Hawai'i Division II volleyball teams.

Alyssa Given added 10 kills for Seattle Pacific (4-1). Barbara Martin had 12 kills and 11 digs, and Melissa Sekigawa added 11 digs for the Sea Warriors.

Four hours later, HPU traveled to Seattle University, where it again was swept — losing 30-26, 30-19, 30-24.

Haley Bury had 13 kills for Seattle (4-2). Martin had 13 kills and 19 digs for HPU (1-5).

Meanwhile, in Ellensurg, Wash., 17th-ranked Central Washington swept Hilo, 30-15, 30-19, 30-24.

Rachael Schurman had 14 kills, and Kristin Pasley added 10 kills and 17 digs for Central Washington (4-1). Taina Savage led Hilo (0-5) with 17 kills.

PUERTO RICO SWEEPS USA FOR GOLD MEDAL

Emmanuel Batista had 15 points as Puerto Rico defeated the United States, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21, in the gold medal match of the NORCECA Boys Youth (19-under) Continental Championship in Bayaguana, Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rico and Team USA, which was coached by University of Hawai'i men's associate coach Tino Reyes and included Punahou's Erik Shoji and Iolani's Brad Lawson, had already qualified for the 2007 FIVB Boys Youth World Championship.

"It is a great victory for all of us, the dominance of the fundamentals was the key," said Puerto Rico coach Carlos Rodriguez.

Cuba defeated Canada for the bronze medal.
