Volleyball honor for Fairfield's Lee

Fairfield (Conn.) junior outside hitter Lindsey Lee, a 2004 St. Joseph graduate from Hilo, earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Lee posted double-doubles in all three matches during the Fairfield Volleyball Invitational, averaging six kills and five digs per game en route to All-Tournament Team honors.

MORE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

  • Hofstra (N.Y.) junior setter Shellane Ogoshi (Roosevelt '04) was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Aztec Invitational this past weekend.

  • George Washington senior setter Kaimana Lee (Seabury Hall '02 of Wailuku) is a co-captain. She was the only Colonial to appear in all 102 games last season.

    FOOTBALL

  • Washington freshman defensive back Jay Angiotti (Punahou '06 of Honolulu) was inadvertently omitted from a list of Division I football players on the Mainland. Angiotti is 5 feet 10 and 180 pounds.

  • Washington State senior offensive lineman Justin Luafalemana (Moloka'i of Kaunakakai) "has impressed line coach George Yarno and is likely to be on the travel squad," according to the Seattle Times.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • San Diego State sophomore Mariko Strickland (Mid-Pacific '05 of Anahola, Kaua'i) was named to the All-Tournament team for this past weekend's Purdue Boilermaker Challenge Cup, which the Aztecs won.

  • Duke junior goalkeeper Allison Lipsher (Punahou '04 of Hawai'i Kai) earned her 18th shutout and 24th win of her career as she posted one save on two shots in a 1-0 win over Western Carolina Sunday.

    MEN'S SOCCER

  • Bowling Green sophomore midfielder Justin Kim (Mililani '04) scored a goal and had the game-winning assist in a 2-1 overtime win over Western Illinois Friday.

    He scored in the 56th minute and was credited with the overtime assist in the 101st minute.

    HALL OF FAME

  • Former Pacific (Forest Grove, Ore.) baseball All-American Warren Arakaki, a Hilo resident, will be inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in October.

    Arakaki earned All-America honors as a second baseman in 1980 after leading the Northwest Conference with a then-school record .456 batting average. That year, he was named to the NAIA's All-America Scholar Athlete Team and was a nominee for the U.S. Baseball Federation's Golden Spikes Award as the top collegiate baseball player.

    Arakaki was a three-time All-NWC first-team selection (1980, 1981 and 1982), was twice named Pacific's most valuable player. He led the 1982 team with a .403 batting average.

    Arakaki graduated from Pacific's School of Physical Therapy in 1983.
