UH football supporter
Don Murphy
A self-described "mediocre" outfielder while at State College (now Central Oklahoma), Don Murphy moved to Hawai'i in 1986 and has become one of the UH football team's biggest supporters. Murphy, the owner and operator of Murphy's Bar & Grill in downtown, is the chairman of the board of Koa Anuenue, the school's major fundraising group for scholarships. He's also a vice president and past president of Na Koa, the UH football booster club. He is an Oklahoma native who also made stops in Florida, Northern California and Oregon.
How did you become interested in supporting UH athletics and what kind of satisfaction do you get from helping raise money for football and other UH programs?
"I got interested in it because I really believe the University is a very intergal part of our community and I just wanted to become involved with them, in both a personal and business sense. The staisfaction I get out of it, through Murphy's, is that we provide a venue and an opportunity for people to get involved who normally wouldn't."
