Trade winds keep it cool — for now

Thank goodness for the trade winds.

At 6 a.m. today, the temperature at the airport was 76 degrees and the humidity was 72 percent, resulting in a "feels like" heat index of 78 degrees.

Couple those factors with a projected high temperature for the day of close to 90 degrees and you realize we could be in for a real steam bath — if not for the trades, expected to blow at about 10 to 20 miles mph throughout the day.

But enjoy the cooling trades while you can. The National Weather Service forecast calls for them to slowly diminish during the next two days, becoming "light and moderate" for the weekend and first half of next week.

The trades will bring some clouds and showers, primarily to windward and mauka area, but total rainfall will be light, according to the forecast.
