Police Beat: Clothes rack fire touches off investigation

Advertiser Staff

Police have opened an arson investigation after what they believe was a deliberately set fire damaged a store last night at the Pearl Highlands Center in Pearl City.

The store manager who was on duty at the time told police that at about 8:30 p.m. she saw flames rising from the back corner of the store. An unknown customer had apparently set a clothing rack on fire, police said.

The Honolulu Fire Department was called and firefighters extinguished a large fire that engulf the rear of the store, police said.

No arrests had been made in the case as of early this morning.
