'Deep Seawater' approval given

Deep Seawater International Inc. has signed a license agreement to use the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority's "100% Hawaii Deep Seawater" service mark on its bottled water.

It's the sixth deal of its kind signed with companies bottling deep seawater at NELHA. Deep Seawater International will pay an undisclosed royalty amount per gallon to NELHA.

Deep-seawater bottlers have invested more than $100 million at the Kona facility.


CHANG'S CHINA BISTRO TO OPEN

Hawai'i's first P.F. Chang's China Bistro is scheduled to open Sept. 12 in the Hokua luxury condominium high-rise at 1288 Ala Moana next to Ward Centre.

The 282-seat restaurant will be open daily at 11 a.m. for lunch, and remain open until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.


COSTCO EXPECTS LOWER PROFITS

SEATTLE — Costco Wholesale Corp. said it expects fourth-quarter profit to be below analyst estimates.

Sales on items such as jewelry and furniture slowed, and the company struggled with higher gasoline prices. The warning sent Costco shares down nearly 5 percent yesterday. The Issaquah, Wash.-based wholesale club said it expects to earn 68 cents to 71 cents per share for its quarter ending Sept. 3.


STARBUCKS CALLS OFF PROMOTION

SEATTLE — There's no such thing as a free iced coffee at Starbucks — at least not anymore.

The world's largest specialty coffee chain has pulled the plug on what was supposed to be a nearly five-week promotion after an e-mail coupon spread farther and wider than the company anticipated.
