1951: President Truman says he does not intend to reappoint Federal Judge Delbert Metzger, but says it is not connected with Metzger's refusal to set high bail for the Hawai'i 7.

1956: The Hawaii Aeronautics Commission approves the master plan for a $12 million conversion of Honolulu Airport into a jet-age facility.

1960: President Eisenhower signs legislation appropriating $10 million to begin work on the East-West Center.

1986: Coco's Restaurant closes its doors after 26 years of serving up pancakes, chop steak, Swanky Franky hot dogs and Coco Melts.

1995: President Clinton arrives in Hawai'i for ceremonies marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

1998: The Dow Jones Industrial average drops 512.61 points, the worst decline since the Oct. 27, 1997, 554-point drop.
