Cooler weather expected through weekend

Windward showers on the Big Island are expected to gradually and partially move over other islands over the weekend, the National Weather Service said today.

Overall, however, the forecast calls for more dry and cool weather. Today will be mostly sunny skies with isolated showers, highs 71 to 78 degrees and east winds 10 to 20 mph. There is a 20 percent chance of rain that increases to 50 percent tonight. Lows will dip to 61 to 68 degrees.

Tomorrow, expect northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph, temps between 72 and 79 degrees and a 50 percent chance of rain. Tomorrow night's temps could dip to 60 degrees.

Northeast winds will pick up a bit on Sunday, up to 20 mph. Cloudy skies with scattered showers and highs around 72 to 79 degrees are expected.
