The Dec. 3, 1863, Pacific Commercial Advertiser announced the Nov. 30 death of King Kamehameha IV.

1911: The Advertiser reports that Libby, McNeil & Libby has acquired property so that its cannery can be moved to Honolulu.

1918: High winds wreak havoc in Honolulu. Gusts up to 60 mph damage banana and papaya crops, uproot trees and damage homes. Street car service is curtailed because of damage, and telephone and electric wires and poles are blown down.

1922: The cornerstone is laid for Central Union Church on the old Dillingham homestead grounds.

1928: The Advertiser announces it has installed a large Christmas stocking in its front window and invites readers to contribute toys for needy children. The Christmas appeal went through name changes over the years and is now The Advertiser Christmas Fund.

1966: Popular Hawaiçi singer-composer Kui Lee dies of cancer in Mexico, where he was being treated with Laetrile. He was 34. “I’ll Remember You” was his best-known composition. Other favorites were “Lahainaluna” and “Ain’t No Big Thing.”

1992: Hawaiian Insurance Group — the state’s fifth-largest property and casualty company — announces it is closing, citing losses from Hurricane Iniki.

2002: More than 800 nurses at The Queen’s Medical Center go on strike, joining striking nurses at St. Francis and Kuakini medical centers.
