Lam gains doubles final at Wailea

Hawai'i's Chris Lam and Brazil's Rodrigo Grilli advanced to the doubles final of the $50,000 Wailea Men's Challenger yesterday at the Wailea Tennis Club.
Lam and Grilli defeated Canada's Pierre-Ludovic Duclos and the United States' Brendan Evans, 7-5, 6-3, in a semifinal match. They will meet the top-seeded team of Rajeev Ram and Brian Wilson, who won their semifinal match on Friday.
In singles play, sixth-seeded Sam Warburg, of the U.S., beat Alberto Francis, of the U.S., 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, in one semifinal yesterday. The other was halted by rain in the third game with fifth-seeded Michael Russell, of the U.S., leading top-seeded Paul Goldstein, of the U.S., 5-7, 6-0, 4-0.
Play resumes today at 10 a.m.
BASKETBALL
HILO MEN LOSE
Sam Kirby scored 21 points and reserve Ricky Berry contributed 16 as Seattle University beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 80-63, yesterday in a men's game at Seattle, Wash.
David White added 15 points for Seattle (5-1).
Vince Alvarado scored 15 points and Michael Martin 13 for the Vulcans (2-5), who shot 32 percent (18 for 56) for the game.
HPU MEN LOSE
Marshall Hartman scored 33 points as Holy Names (Oakland, Calif.) defeated host Hawai'i Pacific, 76-63, yesterday in a men's game at Mid-Pacific Institute gym.
Sean Palmer added 14 points for the Hawks (3-7).
Brandon Lee scored 16 points for the Sea Warriors (3-2).
HILO WOMEN LOSE
Alison Adamson scored 15 points and Augustana (S.D.) put up 32 more shots than Hawai'i-Hilo in beating the Vulcans, 84-49, yesterday in the women's Doubletree Downtown Classic at Omaha, Neb.
Andrea Walsh added 14 points for the Vikings (8-2), who made 28 of its 84 field-goal attempts.
Sheila Azevedo had 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Amy Kaaiakamanu added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Vulcans (0-4), who committed 33 turnovers.
"The girls came out strong and held them in the first ten minutes of the game," said Hilo coach Daphne Honma. "We need to get in better shape in order to perform at this level."
BASEBALL
UH CAMPS COMING
There will be two sessions of the 2006 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Winter Baseball Camps later this month at Les Murakami Stadium.
A Pitcher/Catcher Camp is set for 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 21 to 23 with the Hitting Camp set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on those same dates.
Another session of the same camps will be held Dec. 28 to 30.
The camps are open to children ages 7 to 18. Cost is $120 per camp or combination of the Pitcher/Catcher and Hitting camps during the same session is $200. Campers are responsible for their own lunches, as well as gloves, bats and catching gear.
The camps will be conducted by the Rainbows' coaching staff, as well as by UH players and area high school coaches.
