O'Neill Triple Crown surf event postponed

Advertiser Staff

The O'Neill World Cup of Surfing men's contest was postponed today due to inconsistent surf conditions at Sunset Beach.

The World Cup is the second event in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

One more day of competition is required to complete the contest. Officials have until Wednesday to run the final day.

Among the 32 surfers still in contention are Hawai'i competitors Jesse Merle-Jones, Fred Patacchia Jr., Ian Walsh, Pancho Sullivan, Andy Irons, Jason Shibata, Dustin Cuizon and Kekoa Bacalso.

Irons is the defending Triple Crown of Surfing champion, and he also won the first event of this year's Triple Crown last month at Hale'iwa Ali'i Beach.

Current world champion Kelly Slater of Florida is also among the 32 surfers still remaining in the O'Neill World Cup.

For daily status of the contest, call 596-7873 or visit triplecrownofsurfing.com.
