Pearlridge residents urged to conserve water

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply is asking residents of the Pearlridge Estates area to conserve water after a 12-inch water main broke.

The break was reported at 3:30 p.m. in the area of 98-630 Kaonohi St., water agency spokeswoman Su Shin said.

The pipe break allowed water to drain out of the reservoir that serves the area. In addition, the reservoir is not being replenished with new water.

The reservoir still has water, and officials are monitoring the water level, Shin said. But people need to conserve water because the supply is limited. If possible, residents should hold off watering lawns, washing their cars and other nonessential uses of water.

There are no plans at this time to send water wagons to the neighborhood, Shin said.

It was not known what caused the pipe to break. Crews were still ascertaining the situation, but residents should be prepared for the situation to last throughout the night, Shin said.
