1890: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported that the first concert ever given by the Kamehameha Glee Club would be at the Hawaiian Opera House on Dec. 15.

1895: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser notes that the mongoose was imported to Hawai'i five or six years earlier to exterminate rats in the cane fields. But the paper observed that after destroying rats, the mongoose have attacked birds and fowl and now there were few quail and turkey in the Islands.

1919: Organization of a federation of labor unions comprising Japanese cane workers and others throughout the Islands is unanimously approved at the fourth day’s session of the first Japanese labor convention in Hawai'i. The convention also adopted a constitution.

1969: For the fourth day, destructive high surf pounds the North Shore. Six more homes were severely damaged and 1,750 people were evacuated.

2002: Nurses at Kapi'olani Medical Center approve a new contract, but nearly 1,400 nurses at three O'ahu hospitals remain on strike.
